Media maligns Islam:
Islam is without doubt the best religion but the media is in the hands of the westerners who are afraid of Islam. The media is continuously broadcasting and printing information against Islam. They provide misinformation about Islam, misquote Islam or project a point out of proportion, if any.
When any bomb blasts take place anywhere, the first people to be accused without proof are invariably the Muslims. This appears as headlines in the news. Later, when they find that non-Muslims were responsible, it appears as insignificant news’ item.
If a 50 year old Muslim marries a 15 year old girl after taking her permission, it appears on the front page but when a 50 year old non-Muslim rapes a 6 year old girl, it may appear in the news in the inside pages as ‘News briefs’. According to the FBI report for years 2000-2007 (http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2007/offenses/violent_crime/forcible_rape.html), Every year in America on an average 90, 000 cases of rape take place but it doesn’t appear in the news, since it has become a way of life for the Americans.
Black sheep in every community
I am aware that there are some Muslims who are dishonest, unreliable, who cheat, etc. but the media projects this as though only Muslims are involved in such activities. There are black sheep in every community. I know Muslims who are alcoholics and who can drink most of the non-Muslims under the table
Muslims best as a whole
In spite of all the black sheep in the Muslim community, Muslims taken on the whole, yet form the best community in the world. We are the biggest community of tee-tootles as a whole, i.e. those who don’t imbibe alcohol. Collectively, we are a community, which gives the maximum charity in the world. There is not a single person in the world that can even show a candle to the Muslims where modesty is concerned; where sobriety is concerned; where human values and ethics are concerned.
Don’t judge a car by its driver
If you want to judge how good is the latest model of the “Mercedes” car and a person who does not know how to drive sits at the steering wheel and bangs up the car, who will you blame? The car or the driver? But naturally, the driver. To analyze how good the car is, a person should not look at the driver but see the ability and features of the car. How fast is it, what is its average fuel consumption, what are the safety measures, etc. Even if I agree for the sake of argument that the Muslims are bad, we can’t judge Islam by its followers? If you want to judge how good Islam is then judge it according to its authentic sources, i.e. the Glorious Qur’an and the Sahih Hadeeth.
Judge Islam by its best follower i.e. Prophet Mohammed (pbuh)
If you practically want to check how good a car is put an expert driver behind the steering wheel. Similarly the best and the most exemplary follower of Islam by whom you can check how good Islam is, is the last and final messenger of God, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Besides Muslims, there are several honest and unbiased non-Muslim historians who have acclaimed that prophet Muhammad was the best human being. According to Michael H. Hart who wrote the book, ‘The Hundred Most Influential Men in History’, the topmost position, i.e. the number one position goes to the beloved prophet of Islam, Muhammad (pbuh). There are several such examples of non-Muslims paying great tributes to the prophet, like Thomas Carlyle, La-Martine, etc.

First off 2,617 rapes do not happen every day in the U.S., less then 300 rapes are reported to happen every day in America (which is astronomically higher than in our societies, as far as reported cases are concerned).
The problem is not with 50 year old men marrying 15 year old girls, it is with 30 year old men marrying 8 year old girls and Saudi Religious Scholars sanctioning these marriages.

Furthermore when a 6 year old is raped in America it is condemned and he is put in jai.
Now I am the first one to say that America is not perfect and that more could be done to stop this, however regardless of how many 8 year olds are being sexually assaulted in the West and how many are being sexually assaulted in the Islamic World under marriage, it is something that should be eliminated and the fact that religious scholars sanction such abuse shows how decayed our Ummah is.
Muslim leaders and followers are either stupid or dishonest. They say that Islam means peace, last time i checked Islam means submission to Allah, and that Islam promotes tolerance, last time I checked tolerance in the Western definition means acceptance of Gays, Bi Sexuals, Transgenders and others, which I am sure that at least 90% of Muslims are against.
I don’t believe in tolerance of any kind, however tolerance from a Western perspective is entirely different than our definition of tolerance, to continually say that Islam is about tolerance is misleading to Westerners.
As for Modesty, that is another incorrect statement. Yes we Muslims do engage in a lot less sex (at least outside of marriage) and have fewer partners on average, however that is not the whole truth.
Sexual harassment of women is rife throughout the Muslim world, and in one study (I am not saying it is definitive) finding that 62% of men admit to harassing women in Egypt.
Egypt is not anymore demented than Turkey, Pakistan, or even shockingly Saudi Arabia. The harassment of women is the by product of sexually cloistered societies

Muslims are sorely lacking in giving charity, Indians give more back to India in remittances than Pakistanis at a per capita basis for workers and residents in the West and Gulf (this may not be an entirely accurate statement given that Indians may earn more than Pakistanis).
Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Libya are all running huge current account surpluses that are being reinvested in the West.
The Saudis are running a current account surplus of $100 billion dollars a year, this is enough money to feed 150,000,000 at an American standard of eating produced by America.
If Muslims were so generous then we wouldn’t be so poor.

Dear Tariq, Thanks for pointing out the mistake of the count. Essentially, the mistake was that author typed “Everyday” instead of “Every week”. The count 2,617 was given for a week, not for day.
Anyways we have corrected the article with latest stats with a link to FBI report on US government site. Hope that is enough evidence to people regarding the crime.
Also, regarding your argument about Muslim world, None of it is backed up by any proper evidence. Your evidence is CNN.com or similar reporting media that is one of the essential tools used to defame Islam. Anyone can talk in air, the point is, talk facts and reality!
Also, if you read the article right, it actually answers your misconception. Islam is not judged by its followers activities, its judged by its Source of knowledge.

if you note the above statistics you will see that this statistics are of 1996 twelve years ago . . the Americans have grown bolder as the rapes have increased as compared to the statistics of the year 1979. Search in google if you want a proof.
I am amazed at the naivety displayed by Tariq Mahmood. Comparing the penal system of the US with the laws of Islam is indeed a laughable effort! There is a huge movement currently underway in the USA to ‘reform their penal system’. Why? Currently there are over 2 million US citizens behind bars (as per 2008 data). That means that over 1 out of every 100 citizens of USA is currently behind bars (which is the highest in the world!), over 1 in 30 men between the ages of 20 and 34 is behind bars! There are over 3,157,991 registered sexual offenders on the national registry web site. A good number of them include the ones who attacked kids under the age of 14 (a few of them attacked toddlers!) This are a fraction of the actual number of assualts many more of which go unreported due to lack of witness etc. And practically every girl either directly or indirectly comes across incidents like ‘date rapes’ or assaults which are almost never reported.
More and more of the American population is turning to conservative religious views (including marrying off girls before they reach 18) due to the rampant prevalence of pre-teen unwed mothers and increasing turmoil in their lives. The fact is human laws are always arbitrary and keep evolving with changing times. The ‘tolerance’ of LGBTs is not a new phenomenon. Qur’an majeed mentions the story about a community in Sodom (people of Lot(as) ) who practiced this en mass. An each time this became popular, Allah(swt) brought destruction to that community (Chapter Hud, 11, verse 77 to 83) till that practice disappeared. But humans, being the ingrates that they are, again went on the same path.
Mr. Mahmood might actually be surprised to note that in the ‘western’ civilization that he so strongly supports, there is a rising feeling against the LGBT community and tendency to become more religious. There was a recent election in California (one of the most liberal states in the US) where the citizens overwhelmingly voted to reject ‘same sex marriage’ law that was proposed by the government in charge. There are in fact communities in USA where any gay person could be lynched for openly coming out. The governments here are totally in control of lobbyist and any group that can finance a big lobbying firm can push the government to pass favourable laws. That does not mean that the people are in favor of the same.
Mr. Mahmood further gives a vague statistic from Egypt saying that over 62 % of their men there admit to harassing women. Can anyone dispute the fact that Egypt has one of the most pro-western governments in the Muslim world? The people out there are among the most ‘westernized’ in the Islamic world (coming next to Iraq during the Saddam era). Prevalence of harassment of women in the Muslim societies has nothing to do with following Islam, but has everything to do with rampant poverty and backwardness, lack of education, prevalence of pre-Islamic cultures in these areas.
Islam was the first religion to specify the age of consummation of the marriage to be the age of puberty. Do remember that Islam was revealed during the time when the world was an extremely violent place where a lot of young men were killed in wars and fights. Secondly, marriage was often a way of setting up tribal alliances and forging peace between warring parties. Also due to rampant poverty a lot of parents during the age of Jahiliya ended up killing infant girls due to the fear of the expenses involved in bringing them up and marrying them off. Thus a hard and fast law could not be set down to set down the age of marriage of girls (or boys) as that would always be driven by circumstances and Islam was sent down as a way of life for all ages till the end of this world.
The main example that Muslims can follow in this regard is the example of the prophet Muhammad (saws), who married his beloved daughter Fatima at the age of 15 (approximately) to Ali bin Abu Talib who was around 21 years of age. This was in spite the fact that she had received marriage proposals from all the leaders of the Islamic movement include Abu Bakr (ra) and Omar (ra).
The current governments in the Muslim world, including that of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE and almost all other examples given by Mr. Mahmood, are authoritarian non-Islamic forms of government. Unfortunately it is true that the current Muslim community in the world are woefully lacking in the practice of Islam. They seem to forget that just calling themselves Muslims does not qualify anyone as Muslims. It is only thru strictly following all of the commandments does one qualify as a Muslim. Charity has been mentioned in the holy Qur’an almost as frequently as the mention of prayer:
“And be steadfast in prayer and regular in charity: And whatever good ye send forth for your souls before you, ye shall find it with Allah. for Allah sees Well all that ye do”[Al Qur’an, Chapter Al Baqarah, 2:110].
It is unfortunate that Muslims have stopped practicing Islam as it was meant to be, and have started aping the morally bankrupt western civilization which itself is increasingly looking towards Islam for the solution of its problems.
It is very disappointing to know that there are people like who cannot judge his own religion that is Islam by its sources ,,he is judging on the basis of western media or the fake followers of Islam.Its high time ,we have to wake up ,gain knowledge ,come out of misconceptions and convey correct message to non-Muslim world by being a role model.Just having a Muslim name doesn’t mean that we are Muslim ,we need to read Quran , understand the words of Allah and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad to be on right track.
Islam is no doubt the best religion because its word of Allah and we cannot doubt word of Allah based on non-practicing Muslims . Islam is the only religion which gives women her rights and freedom which no other religion gives but its very disappointing to know that today no one wants to take help of shariah to solve their problem they go to court and trust their judgment . If a man has more than one wife legally than that becomes hot topic of discussion ,,but if a man has more that one girl friend and also have kids with them that is very normal ,,no finger point towards them.This is main aim of western media ,to show the world how bad Islam is and how bad its followers are.There are many cases in US of father raping his own daughter and having kids ,,does media highlight this in news ,never, but if any 40 year old Muslim man marries a 15 yr old girl with permission of girl and her parents than that becomes news highlight.This shows how media wants to portray that Islamic laws are wrong.Its very normal if a person is continuously bombarded by the same news daily than the person listening to it starts believing it .Again all the people living in Saudi are not practicing Muslims so its possible that crime may happen but if u compare crime rate is very less as compared to US because if anyone commits crime in Saudi that they are punished according to sharia law and rest Allah knows the best.
If every Muslim follow the rules and regulation of Islam and be a practicing Muslim that our world would be a peaceful place to live in ,,but unfortunately its not because there a very few practicing Muslims striving to correct other people and striving to keep Islam alive.

Tariq and other Muslim br`s and sisters…Don’t judge Islam by looking at “what a nation or individual does Or How many rapes takes place / day / week / hour or how many murders takes place etc..”. Why do we need those statistics? Do you believe in la ilaha illallah, then, you have the worlds best guide book from Allah (Quran) and his messenger Muhammad (PBUH) (hadeed). Follow that, and do it for sake of Allah alone. Ask to one self “How much have i prepared for the day of judgment” just by blaming each other etc, we cannot hide the truth or ignore it (i.e.: Allah, Death, paradise, hell and Muhammad (PBUH)).
If Saudi is promoting, that 8yrs old can be married it’s their will and wish. Let Allah deal with them, but in what way and why we week our imaan for others sake. Let entire Muslim community be wrong, are you going to bare their sins in front of Allah? NO! If others are going to jump onto volcano, will you or I or we jump too? No we wont .Will you / I / we say to Allah in judgment day, (that others did mistake, other were wrong etc therefore I did not follow Islam properly). Follow only the foot steps of messenger follow not your lust.
Why do we get all these kinds of questions in our mind, blaming each other? Because we don’t follow Islam as per saying of Quran and Hadeed and we don’t follow for sake of Allah alone.
When you or I or we follow Islam, let’s keep in mind that we do it for Allah’s sake alone, not to impress others, or for our own comfort. Then we can see a lot of difference in our life.
If the imaam of a mosque is hypocrite, who don’t walk the talk will you then quit going to mosque. NO! What we can do is we should advice him and leave the rest with Allah. we all have duty upon each muslim, to take him out of false track by advising not by competating with him in doing bad.
